Anaïse Louis
Beyond the After Awakening
On View: March 10th - April 30th 2026Curated by Rejeila Firmin
This exhibition marks Anaise Louis’ first survey show, bringing some of her earliest works out of the archives and into conversation with her most recent creations. By juxtaposing custom garments, a short film, and ephemera from the design process, the exhibition offers a holistic view of Louis’ brand, After Awakening. In building a brand “powered by purpose,” Louis has intentionally positioned her work at the intersection of form, function, and fashion.
In homage to her creative process, the curatorial design of the exhibition echoes the scrapbooking and scaffolding of a studio environment, making visible the experimentation and risk-taking that shape Louis’ practice. At the center of the exhibition is the Made For Makers collection. Introduced alongside archival pieces that predate it, this newest body of work reflects years of exploration and evolving design theories.
As the daughter of a Haitian architect who built both his home and his restaurant, Louis draws inspiration from everyday makers as much as from artists working within the tradition of fine art. This broad influence informs the porous design of the Makers collection. Garments feature adaptable pockets and modular elements that invite the wearer to customize and shape the piece to their own needs.
Beyond designing garments with community in mind, Louis organizes workshops and collaborates with artists across disciplines, continually expanding the scope of her creative practice. After Awakening is more than a clothing brand. It is a philosophy of creation. Each garment serves as both reminder and affirmation that the act of making begins from within.

Archive of Becoming: A time capsule of the artistic journey of Anaïse Louis
Archive of Becoming: A reflective time capsule of every version of me, sealed in fabric, color, and memory. Each era preserved, each becoming honored — not just a body of work, but a living archive of growth.
About the artist:
Anaise Louis traces the root of her practice back to Haiti where both her family and their nation's history passed on the heirloom of creative resilience. Through her work, which blends design, creative direction, and public programming, Anaise continues to pour out of her an interdisciplinary upbringing made manifest. Louis notes that creatives are allowed to "try and fail before [we] know it all" in the name of our intrinsic callings. After several fashion shows, workshops, collaborations, and collections, Anaise has developed a taste for specific materials and silhouettes that will continue to be her signature as she ventures into new spaces.
