America 250th

We join our fellow Americans in commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, marking America’s Semiquincentennial, and reaffirming our shared commitment to liberty, justice, equality, and dignity for all.

Here in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the birthplace of the American Revolution, we commemorate this national milestone with a special exhibition, Vanguard of Democracy: Massachusetts and the Making of LGBTQ+ America on view now through August 15th at MassArt. The exhibition traces how Massachusetts helped lead the nation in advancing LGBTQ+ civil rights—from the first openly gay and lesbian Americans elected to public office to the first legal same-sex marriages in the country. Arriving in the year of America’s 250th anniversary, Vanguard of Democracy makes a intentional reminder: LGBTQ+ history is American history.

Now on view though August 15th, at MassArt located 621 Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02115

Happy Pride Month 2026!

Our mandate is to build a permanent home that will feature a comprehensive exhibition exploring the history of LGBTQ+ people in Massachusetts, rotating galleries showcasing contemporary and multidisciplinary art, a dedicated Portraits of Pride gallery, and spaces for education, public programs, and community gatherings. The LGBTQ+ Museum will also steward a growing collection of art, artifacts, archives, and historical materials that preserve, interpret, and celebrate LGBTQ+ stories for the future.
