  • Who We Are

The Boston LGBTQ+ Museum of Art, History & Culture, colloquially referred to Boston Queer Museum is a multidisciplinary and innovative art institution that is dedicated to celebrating the rich and diverse history of the LGBTQ+ movement and fostering the next generation of LGBTQ+ artists and art leaders in Boston and the surrounding regions.

  • What We Do

We curate engaging and thoughtful exhibitions that highlight significant moments and themes in LGBTQ+ history and culture. We offer educational programs and lectures to deepen understanding and foster dialogue around LGBTQ+ issues. Through our Queer Arts Taskforce, we preserve historical artifacts and works of art, in order to nurture a rich collection and permanent exhibition in the future for public view and engagement. We host community events, and we provide spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies to connect.

  • How We Do Our Work

We collaborate with esteemed organizations and institutions whose missions resonate with ours to present compelling exhibits and programs. By utilizing public spaces, we ensure our events, programs and exhibits are accessible to all, while our partnerships with corporate sponsors and benefactors allow us to offer all our programming free of charge. In our commitment to a sustainable future, we are conducting a comprehensive feasibility study and engaging in rigorous research to explore the potential for a permanent space. This approach enables us to make well-informed financial decisions and cultivate strategic partnerships that solidify our viability and elevate our impact as a transformative initiative in the arts and culture sector.

  • Our Raison D'être!

We exist to address the historical underinvestment, neglect and persisted erasure of LGBTQ+ artists, and art that center the queer experience and narratives. For too long, homophobia and discrimination have allowed queer history to be overlooked and queer artists to be marginalized in the broader art and cultural sector. We aim to combat these injustices by providing dedicated platforms for LGBTQ+ artistry, preserving significant historical artifacts, and fostering a deeper understanding of LGBTQ+ history and culture.
